In this book, the author examines the PAC's approach to Planning Enforcement in Northern Ireland. He sets out the various grounds on which an Enforcement Notice can be quashed with many interesting examples from actual cases. A useful reference book for legal and planning practitioners.

Bill Morrison, planning consultant  comments "Every enforcement official will want to keep a copy of this by the bedside, but the real value in the book is for practitioners looking to inform clients and mount well-supported argument at appeal. A better understanding of the PAC approach helps everyone involved in the process.

 Welcome

The Planning Online database has been updated with New Applications and Decisions up to  18 Nov 2022.

NOTICE TO USERS - 20/06/2024 We have received new data from Planning Portal, but we are not able to process  it owing to changes in format of the data.  We are working on it but in the meantime we advise users  to treat our system as a historical planning database with information on all planning applications in N Ireland from 1975 to Nov 2022.  For New Applications  and Decisions after that date users  can use the NI Planning public viewing Portal.

06/02/2024 Data updates - We understand that the new download facility is going through final testing and that it will be available within the next 2 weeks.  Allowing time for tweaking our system to accept the new format, we anticipate that our database should be fully up to date by end of Febreary.

01/11/23  Data updates - Light at the end of the tunnel?  Dept of Infrastructure has advised that the Planning Portal data download tool is 'almost ready' and should be available in early December.  This  would enable us  to import the missing data (from 26/11/22) and bring the Planning Online database fully up to date. Planning Online is still the most comprehensive source of information on NI planning applications  since 1974 up to 26/11/2022.   For applications and decisions after that date subscribers can use the Planning Portal.

15/08/2023 UPDATE ON Data UPDATES - We are still waiting for Dept of Infrastructure to launch the data download facility in the new Planning Portal.  Recently we have been assured that this facility is in development but no date has been provided for its launch.  We have requested interim solution of regular data extracts to allow our database to be updated with new Applicataions and Decisions for period since 18/11/2022.  The Planning Portal covers 11 of the 12 District Councils in NI, the exception being Mid Ulster which has installed its own system.  Mid Ulster are providing us with data on a weekly basis, and we expect this data to be uploaded shortly.  To all our subscribers - thanks for your patience.

14/08/2023 MAP SEARCH ERROR MESSAGE - 08/09/2023 This issue has been resolved and map is appearing normally..

22/12/22 UPDATE ON UPDATES - We are advised that although the new Planning Portal is now operational, the data extraction facility is still 'under construction' but will be available in 2023.  As a result of this delay, New Applications and Planning Decisions after 18/11/2022 are not included in the Planning Online database.  We will add this data to our database of NI planning information as soon as it becomes available.  In the meantime users can try using the new Planning Portal to check for New Applications and Decisions. The Planning Online database is are still working providing full infomarion on applications for the period from July 2010 to November 2022, and for the earlier systems; PlanApps (1991-1999); Planner 20/20 (1999-2010), and earlier manual inputs from (1976-1991).  NOTE ALSO that the new Planning Portal does not include data for Mid Ulster District from 18/11/2022, as that District has introduced its own, separate system.

28/11/22 TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF UPDATES - Users please note that no new data will be available from the Planning Authorities during the Period of transition to the new Planning Portal.  We are advised that the new system should be operating from 05 December, but may take a bit longer.  Once the new system is up and running we expect to be able to add all the data for New Applications and Decisions during the period of transition.
